Product Description
Black Braided Silk Suture is a sterile, non-absorbable surgical suture made from natural silk fibroin protein obtained from the domesticated silkworm Bombyx mori. The silk fibers are carefully processed to remove natural waxes and gums, then braided for enhanced strength and flexibility.
The suture is dyed black and coated with a special wax mixture to improve handling characteristics, knot security, and smooth tissue passage. MESIL® is also available in natural silk variants, including virgin silk where sericin gum is retained to bind filaments together.
Due to its excellent knot tying ability and dependable tensile strength, MESIL® is widely used for general soft tissue approximation and ligation, including cardiovascular, ophthalmic, and neurological surgical procedures. The suture is supplied sterile in aluminum foil packaging, with or without needle options.
